Official Sea of Hull merchandise goes on sale

A range of official Sea of Hull merchandise will go on sale at Ferens Art Gallery on Saturday 22 April for the opening of the SKIN exhibition.

Ferens Art Gallery, in collaboration with internationally renowned artist Spencer Tunick, has produced a range of the exclusively designed merchandise following the UK's largest nude art installation on Saturday 9 July 2016.

Participants from 20 countries registered to take part with 3,200 people from Hull and across the world stripped nude to take part in the hugely successful Sea of Hull project.

The Sea of Hull official merchandise includes t-shirts, bags, stationery, prints and mugs, all available to purchase from Ferens Art Gallery costing as little as £1.49.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Hull City Council Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure and Chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: 'The Sea of Hull installation was a massive success and had a huge impact, creating some very special memories for all those involved. We have received a lot of requests for official merchandise so people can be reminded of their amazing experience here in Hull.'

Kirsten Simister, Curator of Art, said: 'Working with Spencer was a new experience for the gallery and we applaud and thank all those very spirited, courageous people who took part in the Sea of Hull commission. This merchandise will offer everyone the chance to buy a souvenir to go with the memories that were created on 9 and 10 July.'

Tunick's exciting new body of work was commissioned by Ferens Art Gallery, with support from the Ferens Endowment Fund, and will form part of an exciting exhibition, SKIN, with significant loans by world renowned artists never seen in Hull before. These include paintings by Lucian Freud, one of the most significant painters of the 20th century, striking sculptures by Ron Mueck in partnership with ARTIST ROOMS and the Courtauld Gallery’s masterpiece by Edouard Manet, Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe.

The SKIN exhibition will be on display between Saturday 22 April and Sunday 13 August 2017. It examines how the subject of the nude continues to fascinate and inspire artists.
